The Side Effects of BELOTERO BALANCE®

At Jefferson Plastic Surgery, patients have a number of options when it comes to reducing the appearance of wrinkles and lines. Our Philadelphia, PA cosmetic surgery center offers a number of surgical and non-surgical anti-aging procedures that can leave you looking years younger. One such treatment option is BELOTERO BALANCE®, a dermal filler injection that can eliminate wrinkles and lines.

We'd like to cover some of the basics when it comes to BELOTERO BALANCE®, and then focus on the side effects of treatment.

About BELOTERO BALANCE®

BELOTERO BALANCE® is a dermal filler comprised of hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the human body. When BELOTERO BALANCE® is injected into the skin, it can help eliminate lines, wrinkles, creases, and hollows. The results are smoother skin and a more youthful appearance.

Candidates for BELOTERO BALANCE®

Good candidates for BELOTERO BALANCE® are people who suffer from the following facial wrinkles and cosmetic issues:

  • Frown lines
  • Worry lines
  • Crow's feet
  • Smile lines
  • Smoker's lines
  • Laugh lines
  • Poor cheekbone volume
  • Lines on the nose
  • Acne scars

During the consultation process, we can determine if BELOTERO BALANCE® injections or a facial plastic surgery procedure might be best for you and your needs.

Common BELOTERO BALANCE® Side Effects

Some of the most common side effects that BELOTERO BALANCE® patients experience after treatment include the following:

  • Minor Bruising - Some minor bruising may occur in the injection site after the treatment has been performed.
  • Swelling - Swelling around the injection site is a common part of BELOTERO BALANCE® recovery.
  • Redness - The skin around the injection site may appear red or pink as a result of the BELOTERO BALANCE® procedure.
  • Itching - Following a BELOTERO BALANCE® injection, some minor itchiness or irritation may occur around the injection site.
  • Tenderness of the Skin - As BELOTERO BALANCE® is injected and enhances the injection site, a patient may experience tenderness of the skin in that part of the face.

How Long Will the Side Effects Last?

Thankfully, the side effects of BELOTERO BALANCE® are only temporary. Many of these side effects subside within a day to three days. Some bruising, swelling, and redness may last for up to a week, but these issues can be concealed with makeup and managed with proper aftercare.

With regard to aftercare, patients are asked to avoid strenuous physical activity, direct sun exposure, consumption of alcoholic beverages, and avoid taking aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for 24 hours after treatment. This will help prevent prolonged side effects and minimize the risk of complications.

Warning Signs of Complications

If you experience serious discomfort after BELOTERO BALANCE® treatment or notice a worsening of side effects, be sure to contact your cosmetic surgeon right away. This could be the sign of a complication, and it is imperative that it be addressed by a professional in a timely fashion.

Keep in mind that complications from BELOTERO BALANCE® injections are rare, and all efforts are made to ensure treatment is as problem-free as possible.
