JUVÉDERM Results
Your face is one of the first areas that will inevitably show signs of aging, most often in the form of fine lines and wrinkles around the outside of the eyes (known as crow’s feet) or between the nose and the lips. In some cases, your lips themselves may also start to lose volume and thin out. These changes often happen as a result of loss of collagen, which is a protein in the body that helps to fill itself out. Collagen can be lost due to aging, excessive sun exposure, or tobacco use. The end result is that you may end up appearing to be worn, tired or sometimes angry, even if that is not how you actually feel.
Fortunately, dermal fillers can address the issue of fine lines and wrinkles around the face. Our doctors at Jefferson Plastic Surgery often use dermal fillers to reduce patients’ signs of aging around the face, but without surgical intervention. JUVÉDERM is one of the popular dermal fillers that our surgeons use. Below are some of the more common questions they get from patients. What issues can JUVÉDERM treat? How long until you begin to see effects? How long do the results from JUVÉDERM usually last?
What Issues Can JUVÉDERM Treat?
Like other dermal fillers, JUVÉDERM reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the face, as well as providing more volume to the lips. Unlike dermal fillers that use other forms of collagen to replace that you have lost, JUVÉDERM uses hyaluronic acid, which is a substance found in the skin that keeps it moist and adds volume. However, unlike dermal fillers that use collagen, the hyaluronic acid used in JUVÉDERM is synthetic, so your chances of having a reaction are less significant than with collagen-based dermal fillers.
How Long Until You See Results?
Patients should see results almost immediately after receiving JUVÉDERM injections. As an added benefit, there is very little recovery time needed, and most patients should be able to resume normal activities the following day, with only a minimal amount of swelling and redness at the injection sites. Our surgeons recommend avoiding unnecessarily touching the injection sites for a few days after treatment, and avoid exposure to heat, cold, or sun for about two weeks. You should also use sunscreen during this time and avoid any facial products that contain alcohol.
How Long Do Results Last?
Results for any dermal filler can vary depending upon the area being treated, how much dermal filler is used, and sometimes even the thickness of the skin. However, our surgeons generally see JUVÉDERM last approximately five months for the lips and anywhere from 10 months to a year in other areas of the face. Because JUVÉDERM formulas tends to be more viscous than other dermal fillers, it appears to last somewhat longer.
JUVÉDERM can provide an excellent alternative to surgery in order to reduce the signs of aging around your face. With little down time and immediate results, it is less invasive and less expensive than a facelift. Ask our surgeons if you might be a good candidate for JUVÉDERM treatments.
