New Year’s Resolutions: Non-invasive Cosmetic Procedures
Maybe this is the year you’ve finally decided that you want to brighten up your appearance. You want your face to look younger and rejuvenated, but aren’t really sure that a major cosmetic surgical procedure such as a facelift is what you want. It may be out of your budget or be more work than what you want done. What options might there be to accomplish your New Year’s resolution of looking more youthful, but without having to undergo a more invasive cosmetic procedure? Our staff at Jefferson Plastic Surgery has several options you may consider to give yourself a younger look with much less time, expense, and effort than undergoing a facelift. Below are some of the noninvasive facial rejuvenation procedures that we offer.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly those that form around the outer corners of the eyes (crow’s feet), as well as around the lips and the lower part of the nose. These fillers replace the collagen (a protein that fills out the skin over the skeletal framework) that your body will naturally lose over time as you age. Your face will look firmer and fuller as a result.
Dermal fillers are injected just below the skin, and can be done in a quick visit to our office, with no recovery time needed. You may have a small amount of bruising and swelling at the injection sites, but these will subside within a few days. Depending upon the type of dermal filler and where you have work done, the results can last anywhere from 12 to 18 months.
Botox
If you have deeper frown lines in the upper third of the face, particularly between the brows, Botox injections may be a better solution for you. Botox injections relax and smooth out wrinkles and furrows. The result is a facial expression that looks less tense and angry, making you appear younger and more alert.
Botox injections can also be performed quickly during a standard office visit, with little in the way of recovery time or side effects. Botox injections generally last anywhere from three to six months.
Chemical Peel
If you feel as though your skin looks dull, a chemical peel may help you brighten up your complexion. The outer layer of skin usually consists of dead skin cells that, over time, can cause the face to look dull. A chemical peel uses a mild acid solution to remove that top layer of skin, revealing younger skin underneath that has more vitality and glow. A chemical peel can also remove certain blemishes that are on the surface of the skin.
This procedure can either be done in the office or in a day surgery center, depending on how deep a chemical peel is. However, our staff recommends caution in terms of sun exposure following a chemical peel, as your face will be very sensitive, and you do not want to risk any sun damage to the newly exposed skin.
There’s no reason why you cannot attain your goal of having a more youthful face without having to undergo an invasive procedure. Dermal fillers, Botox injections, or a chemical peel may help you reach your goals for a brighter start to the year.
