Four Non-surgical Facelift Alternatives to Improve Your Appearance

Many people want to improve their appearance. Whether this involves getting into better physical shape or enhancing the facial features, we see many patients interested in learning more about their treatment options.

However, patients may not want to undergo surgery to achieve their cosmetic goals. At Jefferson Plastic Surgery, we offer a number of non-surgical facial cosmetic procedures. Read further to find out more about improving your facial appearance without undergoing a facelift.

BOTOX Injections

BOTOX Cosmetic is probably the best known and most popular of all non-surgical facial cosmetic procedures. It is designed to address lines and wrinkles around the forehead, between the brows, and at the outer corners of the eyes.

BOTOX Cosmetic relaxes the muscles that control these areas of your face, reducing the appearance of frown lines.

For this procedure, one of our surgeons will inject BOTOX Cosmetic into your facial muscles in the areas targeted for improvement. This procedure can be done right in our office, usually in 30 minutes or less.

You should expect your treatment to last anywhere from three to six months. At that point, you can opt for another treatment session.

Dermal Fillers

The basic principle of dermal fillers is similar to that for BOTOX Cosmetic: minimizing the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face.

Dermal fillers are made of a material that simulates the body’s natural collagen,; they add volume to your facial skin to reduce signs of aging. They can be used in a number of areas around your face, including around the eyes, cheeks and mouth, as well as directly into the lips.

Your surgeon will inject the dermal filler just under your skin in the areas where you want improvement. Like BOTOX treatments, the dermal filler procedure can be done in 30 minutes or less.

The effects of treatment generally lasts from four to 12 months, and can be repeated once the material is absorbed back into the body.

Microdermabrasion or Chemical Peels

If your main concern about your face is not lines and wrinkles, but instead skin that is dull and lifeless, or has acne scars, sun spots or other blemishes, a microdermabrasion or chemical peel procedure may give you the results you want.

In a microdermabrasion procedure, your surgeon will use a fine, rotating brush to remove the dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin.

A chemical peel involves the use of a solution that is applied to the face and left to sit for a while before being removed. Once this top layer of skin cells has been removed, the underlying skin will look fresh and rejuvenated, and any discoloration or old acne scars will be reduced in appearance.

Your face will feel as though you have a mild sunburn and be particularly sensitive to sun right after a microdermabrasion or chemical peel procedure. Our surgeons recommend staying out of direct sunlight for the first three to four days following your procedure.
