Micro-BOTOX® Injections Can Shrink Large Pores

Large pores can negatively impact your appearance and self-esteem. Even if you have a daily routine for cleansing and exfoliating, pores can still be prominent, leading to issues with the skin texture and the overall look of your face.

At Jefferson Plastic Surgery, we have plenty of ways to help smooth out your skin and reduce the prominence of large pores. While facials and light therapy are common among patients, our Philadelphia, PA cosmetic skin care center also uses BOTOX® Cosmetic injections to help address various imperfections. Micro-BOTOX® injections, a new cosmetic technique, may be the answer you desire.

What Are Micro-BOTOX® Injections?

Also known as Intradermal-BOTOX® and Meso-BOTOX®, Micro-BOTOX® injections are designed to target the sweat glands, oil glands, and arrector pili muscles of the face. The arrector pili muscles are attached to the hair follicles in mammals and are responsible for the appearance of goosebumps.

By targeting these glands and these particular muscles of the superficial skin, Micro-BOTOX® injections can help shrink pores so that they are less prominent.

Micro-BOTOX® Injections vs. Traditional BOTOX® Injections

While the general principle of Micro-BOTOX® is similar to traditional BOTOX® cosmetic therapy, the two differ in an important way.

In traditional BOTOX®, muscle groups that cause facial expressions are targeted and frozen in order to prevent the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. With Micro-BOTOX®, the area just beneath the surface of the skin is targeted, not the deeper, underlying muscles.

In other words, Micro-BOTOX® targets the small arrector pili muscles linked to follicles and pores rather than the facial muscles that move the eyes, mouth, forehead, lower brow, and so forth.

How Micro-BOTOX® Treatment Is Performed

A plastic surgeon/skin care specialist carefully injects the diluted Micro-BOTOX® solution into the treatment area. The overall treatment process takes no more than 30 minutes.

Following Micro-BOTOX® injections, patients may experience mild side effects, such as minor discomfort, redness, and swelling. These side effects only last about 24 to 72 hours, and clear up on their own.

The Benefits of Micro-BOTOX®

Micro-BOTOX® treatment has the following benefits:

  • Shrinks large/prominent facial pores
  • Reverses signs of aging on the superficial skin
  • Non-surgical treatment with low risks and no downtime
  • Results can be repeated through additional injections

In addition to shrinking the size of large pores, Micro-BOTOX® injections can accomplish the following:

  • Reduce facial oil production
  • Smooth out skin texture
  • Reduce risk of acne and rosacea
  • Tighten the skin of the face

How Long Do Micro-BOTOX® Results Last?

Like traditional BOTOX® injections, Micro-BOTOX® results typically last around four to six months. Once the effects of Micro-BOTOX® therapy have worn off, repeat treatments can be performed as needed to prolong the cosmetic benefits.

Is Micro-BOTOX® Right for Me?

The best way to find out if Micro-BOTOX® is right for you is to visit the practice for a consultation. We can determine if you’ll have an adverse reaction to the Micro-BOTOX® solution or if the treatment can be performed without risk of serious side effects or complications. We can also go over all of the pros and cons in greater detail so you can make a confident decision about your skin care options.
